Paris

Se me acumula el trabajo.  No me puedo creer que hace casi un mes que no escribo! Pero es que Junio se me ha pasado volando, han pasado tantas cosas!  El Molly Market, las fiestas de fin de curso de mis hijos, visitas, y mi viaje a Paris.  Hacía años y años que no iba y se me había olvidado lo precioso que es. He venido con mil ideas para mi casa, mi cocina y mi estudio. Ojalá pudiera hacer un viaje cada semana! Pero como no puedo, miraré estas fotos para recordarlo.  Espero que os gusten.

I am so behind on my posts. I can not believe that I have not written any in nearly a month!  The month of June has passed by so quickly, must be due to the amount of things I have done. The Molly Market, my kids end of school year performances, visitors and my trip to Paris.  I had not been back in years and I had nearly forgotten just how absolutely gorgeous it is.  I have returned with a thousand ideas for my home, the kitch and my studio.  How I wish I could travel every week!  But seeing how I can't, I will jus look at the photos to remember it all. I hope you like them.

Esta chica tan guapa y estilosa con esas increíbles gafas fashion es mi madre, que hoy cumple 70 años.   Esta foto tiene más de 30 años pero para mi sigue estando igual de guapa  o incluso más.

Felicidades Mamá, de todo corazón. Te quiero una jartá!

Parece Mancha la cachorrita, pero no lo es.  Es Chula, su hermana.  Era la pequeña de la camada, no la quería nadie y bueno, ha terminado viviendo con nosotros.  Ahora viven las dos hermanas felices y juntitas, sembrando el caos y la destrucción a su paso... bueno, eso es un poco exagerado, pero no sabéis lo que cunden dos cachorritas y la increíble capacidad que tienen para mordisquear y romper objetos en cuestión de segundos.

Esta semana está siendo muy poco productiva y nada inspiradora, y  no es culpa de las perritas.  Primero fue esta especie de mini-era glaciar que estamos disfrutando en Madrid y que hizo que mis niños se pusieran malitos.  Visitas al médico, a la farmacia y noches sin dormir. Y luego se nos ocurrió pintar el ático (dónde está mi estudio) y organizar los trastos que teníamos allí.  Lo que tenía que haber sido una tarea de dos días lleva ya una semana, y todo mi estudio se encuentra (amorosamente) empaquetado en cajas y cajitas. Y la casa está llena de polvo. Es curioso como, cuando decides emprender una reforma, por pequeña que sea, siempre se complica todo, el material que no llega o que se rompe por el camino, los que te dicen que vienen el miércoles y no se sabe muy bien por qué vienen el viernes... Esto es generalizado o sólo me pasa a mi?

Lo bueno, es que es pasajero.  Los niños ya están estupendos, hoy ha salido el sol (aunque ya veremos cuanto dura), y de aquí a una semana fijo que mi estudio estará pintadito, precioso y operativo otra vez.

She may look like Mancha the puppy, but she is actually Chula, her sister.  She was the smallest puppy in the litter and no-one wanted her, so, somehow, she ended up living with us.  Now both sisters live together, happily wrecking havoc wherever they go. This may be a bit exaggerated, but you have no idea what an arm full of trouble two puppies can be, not to mention the uncanny ability they have to chew and break all sorts of objects in a matter of seconds.

This week has been very unproductive, and it's not the puppies fault.  First of all, thanks to this kind of mini-ice age we are living in Madrid all my kids got sick, visits to the doctor, the chemist and sleepless nights.  Then we had the wonderful idea of painting the attic (where my studio is) and try to fix our storage problems.  This should have taken two days but it has been over a week and we are still not finished, and, my whole studio is (lovingly) packed in boxes. The house is full of dust too.  It's funny how, when one starts some kind of renovating at home, no matter how small, things always get complicated, materials don't arrive on time or get lost on the way, workers who are supposed to come on Wednesday but do not actually come until Friday for no apparent reason... Does this happen to everyone or is it just us?

The good thing is that all this will pass soon. My kids are all fine and happy again, the sun is shining (although we do not know for how long), and a week from now, my studio will be freshly painted, beautiful and operative again.

Tengo esta imagen de la periodista Inglesa Daisy Garnett que encontré en el siempre inspiracional blog "A Bloomsbury Life" guardada desde hace tiempo.  Es una foto de su estudio y me encanta, me parece tan bonito, tan acogedor y sobre todo tan vivido! Me encanta especialmente el bebé a los pies de Daisy, me recuerda a mis hijos cuando eran bebés y se subían conmigo al estudio mientras yo trabajaba.  Ahora también suben a pintar, a jugar con los legos... pero me cundía más cuando no hablaban ni andaban (mis hijos son del género parlanchín).

Volviendo al tema estudios, y es que, a menudo, cuando veo fotos de los estudios/oficinas de otras personas, a veces tengo la sensación de que allí no trabaja nadie, está todo muy coordinado, muy bonito... pero no hay ningún artículo personal y sobre todo, ni un sólo papel fuera de su sitio!

Llevo tiempo queriendo darle otro aire a mi estudio, ponerlo más bonito, que sea acogedor, inspirador y sobre todo, intentar mantenerlo más ordenado y que el caos no se apodere de mi mesa!  He mirado revistas, pero como casi siempre últimamente, internet y sobre todo Pinterest han sido mi mayor fuente de inspiración. He encontrado verdaderas preciosidades, así que he decidido hacer una sección en este blog sobre "Estudios Divinos" para ir compartiendo aquellos que más me han gustado.  También he creado un tablero en Pinterest que si queréis, podéis visitar pinchando aquí.

I adore this photo of the British Reporter Daisy Garnett which I found in the very inspirational blog "A Bloomsbury Life".  It is a photo of her home studio, it is so gorgeous, so welcoming and specially looks os lived in! I specially like the baby playing at her feet, it reminds me of when my kids were babies, they used to come up to the studio and stay with me while I worked.  They still come up to the studio with me to draw or to play lego, but I was more productive when they did not walk or talk (my kids are of the chatty kind).

Getting back on track, when I look at photos of other people's studios, I often have the feeling that they are just for show and that no-one actually works there. Everything is pretty and color coordinated, but you hardly ever see a personal item nor a single paper out of place.

I have been thinking about giving my studio a new "air", I want to make it prettier, welcoming, inspirational and above all, try to keep it tidy and avoid utter chaos from taking over my working table! I have been looking at some magazines and specially, internet and Pinterest, which lately seem to be my major sources of inspiration.  I have found some amazing working spaces, so I have decided to make a new section on this blog called "Divine Studios" to share with you those I have liked best.  I have also created a Pinterest board called "work spaces" which you can visit here.

Before and After - Antes y Despues

Esta semana la he dedicado a la fotografía.  Tengo mil diseños nuevos que no he subido a la tienda porque no he encontrado el momento de fotografiarlos.  Y es que... me cuesta, nunca estoy satisfecha con como me salen.   Ejemplo práctico,  entre el lunes y el martes hice como unas 140 fotos, algunas decentes y otras horrorosas, de esas 140 sólo 4 me han parecido lo suficientemente buenas para subirlas a la tienda (podéis verlas pinchando aquí), Pero vamos, 4 de 140!!!Como dice el esposo, menos mal que me ha dado por la fotografía en la era digital, en la era de sólo papel hubiera sido una ruina...

El caso es que yo me preguntaba si es que aprovecho tan pocas porque en vez de ir a mejor voy a peor o es que me he vuelto más exigente, y ayer después de poner en orden mi archivo fotográfico, quiero pensar que es por lo segundo.

Pendientes Josefina Bonaparte. Los adoro, no sólo favorecen un montón si no que además siempre me han traído suerte.  La primera foto es de 2011 cuando abrí la tienda etsy, entonces la foto me parecía una pasada, ahora la veo demasiado oscura y no se aprecian los detalles.  La segunda la hice como hace unas dos semanas, me encargaron unos y como la clienta era alérgica al cobre me pidió si los cierres se podían ser chapados en oro.  Sin problemas. Añadí algunos detalles más en oro para que el diseño quedase más armonioso y como me gustaba el resultado, decidí hacer fotos nuevas para ponerlos en la tienda.

Aunque no lo parezca, las dos fotos están tomadas en el mismo sitio y más o menos a la misma hora.  Lo se porque para la fotografía soy mujer de costumbres fijas, las fotos las hago en mi estudio, delante del ventanal sobre las 11 de la mañana que es cuando tengo luz buena.  La diferencia es que la primera la hice en modelo automático, y para la segunda he dado el gran salto y la he hecho en modo manual.  Confieso que me ha costado mucho hacer el cambio, en el modo automático en general siempre salen bien, mientras que en el modo manual, tienes los dos extremos, o unas fotos alucinantes que te hacen sentir como la fotógrafa jefa del Vogue o horrorosas de la muerte, y al principio más bien todas horrorosas, lo cual motiva muy, muy poco, eso si, cuando salen bonitas, oh que felicidad!

Por cierto, me han seleccionado para la próxima edición del Molly Market que será el próximo 8 y 9 de junio en Madrid. En esta edición cada diseñador ha donado un artículo que formará parte de una gran cesta que se sorteará a favor de la Fundación Isabel Gemio, que lucha por la investigación de las Enfermedades Raras. Mi aportación han sido los pendientes Josefina, que a mi me han dado siempre muchas alegrías y espero se las den a otros también.

This past week I have been busy photographing my new designs.  I have dozens of new things that I can never show on the shop because I never get around to photographing them.  I never seem to be satisfied with how my photos turn out, last week for instance I took like 140 photos and only used four. FOUR!!! C'mon! (you can see some of the new photos clicking here).

At first I thought that my photos instead of improving were actually getting worse, but no, sorting through my records I found the first photo I took of the Josephine earrings taken on 2011, and looking at it, I just think I am getting more exigent with my work.  Mind you, back then I thought I was a photography genious, but now it is clear that I was not, the photo is dark and you can´t  really apreciate the details. 

Both photographs were taken in the same place and at roughly the same time, around 11 a.m. which is when I have the best light in my studio. The difference is that the second one was shot in manual mode, and this has mean a tremendous change for me.  In automatic mode photos always turn out fine, maybe not incredibly wonderful but fine, in manual mode you either take amazing photos that make you feel as if you are the photographer at Vogue magazine or you take really awful ones (specially at the begining, they all look terrible!), but one you take a nice, oh, it is ever so lovely!!

I have been selected to be in the next edition of the Molly Market which will take place in Madrid on June 8 and 9. All designers have donated one of their items to help the Isabel Gemio Foundation for Rare diseases.  I have donated a pair of the Josephine earrings, they have always been a source of joy for me and I hope they will also bring joy to other people.

Contrario de lo que pueda parecer, no me he vuelto minimalista.  Es cierto que estos diseños son menos elaborados que lo que suelo hacer, pero tiene una muy buena explicación. Veréis:

Hace un par de años más o menos estuve en México con el esposo y me traje infinidad de piedras semi-preciosas, a cual más bonita (aquí el esposo añadiría "y pesadas" porque casi tuvimos que pagar exceso de equipaje de lo que pesaban mi piedras... pero es que eran todas tan bonitas...).  Bueno, pues eso, que me traje un montón. 

Ya he utilizado casi todas, pero había algunos hilos que me parecían especialmente bonitos, y me quería esmerar y hacer con ellas y diseño espectacular y muy elaborado.  He hecho mil pruebas con ellas y nada me acababa de convencer, nada hacía que las piedras lucieran como se merecían.... Y esa era la respuesta, realmente son tan bonitas que sólo les hacía falta un diseño sencillo para destacar.

A mi me encantan, porque creo que describen muy bien mi estilo, diseño bonito, cómodo (con tres niños pequeños, la comodidad es muy importante) y especial.  Las piedras son facetadas y naturales - me encanta trabajar con piedras naturales, son menos regulares pero creo que le aportan a todo un encanto especial.

Contrary to what it may seem, I have not turned minimalistic. It is true that these designs are less elaborate than the ones I usually do, but it has a very good explanation.

About two years ago I went to Mexico with my husband and I brought with a me a lot of semi-precious stones, each one more beautiful than the next (and this is where my husband would add "and heavier" because we almost had to pay for excess baggage... but they were all so beautiful!).  Anyway, yes, I did bring a lot with me.

I have almost already used all of them, however, there were a few strands which I found specially beautiful, and I really wanted to produce something extra-special and design something amazing and elaborate with them.  I have tried over a hundred designs and none of them really worked, I could not make them stand out as they should... and that really was the quid of the thing, they are so gorgeous, that what they needed was a simple design to bring forth their gorgeousness.

I love these, I really think they envision my style really well, a beautiful design, easy to wear (with three kids,  easy to wear jewelry is important) and quite special.  I have used natural faceted stones - I love working with natural stones, they are more irregular and sometimes harder to work with but I think they give a special charm to each design.

El Nómada Market finalizó el domingo por la noche.  Tres días muy intensos, de mucho trabajo pero también repletos de alegrías.

Yo siempre digo que lo mejor de las Ferias es la gente que conoces.  Los clientes y toda esa gente maravillosa que toma su tiempo para visitar tu puesto, comprar, probarse, contarte cosas... que si son fans de las cosas Victorianas, que si te conocen por el Facebook... Me encanta charlar con mis clientas, y con cierta frecuencia descubro que tenemos muchos puntos en común.  A todos los que os pasasteis a conocer mis diseños, mil gracias.

También quiero hablar de esas otras personas que son fundamentales para las Ferias y que son los artistas.  En esta edición del Nómada he conocido a gente maravillosa que han hecho que para mi, la feria fuera todavía mejor.

La dulce Isa, derrochando arte y buen gusto con sus collares y camisetas. Vicky de Kishboo y sus originales y  divinos complementos y Cristina de Serenart que es de mi equipo de etsy y me hizo mucha ilusión conocerla a ella y a su trabajo.

Y ya puestos, quiero dar las gracias a más personas porque para mi, está edición del Nómada ha sido un poco complicada - ya sabeis, una de esas épocas en las que la vida se te complica a momentos - y sin el apoyo de mi familia y amigos me hubiera sido imposible asistir. Bueno, ahí van:

A mi esposo y mis 3 hijos - mis mayores fans y talismanes de la suerte particulares.  Además, quiero felicitar a mi hijo de 5 años que en esta ocasión no me tiró el stand ni una sola vez. Bravo! (en su visita a la ultima feria que hice tuve que recolocar todo como unas 7 veces).

A mi hermano y mis hermanas que son mis musas por el apoyo moral y artístico via Wassap (nos separan kilómetros y Océanos) - ainss que me gustan las nuevas tecnologías!

Al resto de la familia y amigas por el apoyo logístico con los niños. Gracias!!! Ser madre de familia numerosa es muy enriquecedor pero en ocasiones puede ser un tanto complicado.

Nomada Market finished last Sunday and I am happy to say that it was a great success.

 Organizing it all was a lot of work but well worth it, specially for all the wonderful people that I have had the pleasure of meeting.

I want to thank all the people who came to visit my stand. Old and new clients as well as friends and family.  I am so grateful to all of you who gave up some of your time (for time is precious) to come to see me. Thank you.

My fellow artists.  I have met so many inspiring and creative people this weekend, and they were so sweet and helpful too!  I hope we will be able to work together again in the future.

I want to mention more very special people who helped me to get everything together.  My husband and our three kids.  They are my greatest fans and my very own lucky charms.  My brother and sisters who are my muses and my artistic advisors.  Extended family and friends who helped me with the kids. Having three little ones is very rewarding but at times, it can get very complicated.

To all of you, thank you, thank you, thank you!
