The Four Simple Goals Challenge - El Reto de los Cuatro Objetivos Sencillos

martes, 19 de noviembre de 2013

Some of my lovely cups which I hardly ever use
Abajo en Español

First of all, let me tell you that this is not an original idea of mine, I found it in the “A Beautiful Mess blog”, but I liked it so much that I decided to join in the challenge and share it with you!

The challenge, basically goes like this: you have to choose 4 goals before the end of the to help you create healthy, life-enriching habits during the busiest time of the year.  To do this, you must follow these very easy rules (the rules I have copied from the blog).

1. Choose simple goals that will make your life richer and happier on a daily basis. Choose things you may not otherwise get done but are not difficult to accomplish.
2. Do not choose result oriented goals. Choose activity oriented goals. For example, instead of "lose 10 pounds ", choose something like "eat fresh fruits and vegetables every day". Get what I'm saying? Positive actions instead of just the end result!
3. Choose personal goals you believe will truly make your life richer just by doing them! They can be daily, weekly or one time experiences.
4. Choose a reward for each goal as it is accomplished! It can be a small or large reward—it's up to you.
5. Blog about your goals, each one as you achieve it and a write a post when they are all finished before the new year.

Easy, right?  And here are my four goals

1. I have lots of plates, cups, table cloths, although none of them are ugly, some are more beautiful than others but I always end up using the not so pretty ones. What's the use of having special things if you never use them? So my first goal is just that, to use my pretty home-ware all the time and not just when I have guests.
2. No more elevators. Right now on my daily routine, the only place where there are elevators is at work, and my office is on the third floor, so I really do think that I will easily be able to do this little bit of extra-exercise on a daily basis
3. Try new, delicious and exciting recipes for all our family meals! I have already started to do this and it’s a lot of fun, specially re-discovering my old recipe books that I had not looked at in ages.
4. This last one, is a little bit frivolous, but hey, this is a list of things that should make me feel better. Ok, my last goal is to find each morning 5 minutes to apply a little bit of concealer and a touch of blush so I will not arrive to work every morning looking like The Corpse Bride  (some people have told me that I am actually more like Morticia Adams but without the glamour of Angelica Houston...). Seriously, when you look better you feel better, and the other way around, and let’s face it, it’s always nicer to get a compliment than to get asked if you are feeling ok as you have a sickly look about you…

So, what do you think of the challenge? Will you join in too? I look forward to reading your goals!

*All images in this post by Sofia Jansson of Mokkasin blog

The other day I was in Pinterest, not really looking for anything in particular, just enjoying all the lovely things I was seeing, pin after pin of gorgeousness. Want to have a look?

This wall paper shall be mine!!!  Este papel pintado será mío!!!

I soon noticed one thing, all these lovely images had a cohesive feeling about them and sure enough, they all came from the same original source, the mokkasin blog/shop so I went to take a look.  My first impression was… it’s written in Swedish!! (dratt, I should have taken Swedish at school instead of Japanese!) Now seriously, it is in Swedish but, there is a magical “translate” button which lets you read all the texts in Engelska (English) or any other language that you should wish for. The translations are at times somewhat “creative”  but overall you do get the idea of what the text is saying.

Mokkasin is the work of the very talented Sofia Jansson, not only does she run the amazing online boutique of the same name, but she also takes all the  photos which as you can see, are truly amazing. Through them we get to see what’s going on in the shop, visit her beautiful home, and meet her lovely family, I love her children’s names Liv, Viggo, Charlie and Nomi.  As a mum of three (my kids are a bit younger than hers) I am always inspired by blogs that depict large families.  Juggling a job, family and home can get a bit overwhelming at times, so it is always nice reading about how other people are dealing with the same things as I am.  It is also humbling, after seeing all her photos I am aware of how much I have to improve mine...

I am specially inspired by this blackboard in which she wrote down all of her children’s after school activities.  I think I should get one too as my afternoons are also filled with activities and only yesterday I forgot to pack one of the boys swimming gear.. ehem, ehem, but it is nice to see I am not the only one who forgets things from time to time…

Do it Yourself - Hazlo tu mismo

Lately I have not had much time for blogging (a good friend told me the other day that I have had poor Marilyn reading for the past two weeks!).  So, yesterday, I had a wonderful surprise when I found out that my Art Nouveau. earrings had been featured in the post that the blog That Girl has dedicated to handmade Christmas gifts.

I was so happy!  First of all, to be featured in such a lovely blog (thank you, thank you!).  Second to have one of my designs included in a selection of such amazing artists, some of which are etsy friends of mine, and third, to see how small firms and handmade goods are being supported.

I grew up in a very artistic home where beautiful, original handmade objects were very much appreciated, whether they be an original painting, a hand painted scarf or a botijo! But the thing is, that in Spain, in general, handmade things  have never really been appreciated and in fact, when you mention the term "handmade" or "craft" what comes to many people`s minds are a group of grannys making crochet dolls to hide the toilet paper or a similar type of crafty horrid project.  Fortunately, I have the feeling that things are changing, that more people are interested in handmade designs for many reasons.  Maybe it is because, in general, they are more original, in many ocasion they are better made than other comercial stuff, maybe it's the customer service which is excelent, or maybe just because they are made with love!

I want to leave you with two articles that have recently been published by El País, that talk about these things (unfortunately, they are both in Spanish).  They are "Handmade can be profitable" and "Art & Crafts Movement: Fashion, Art and Subversion".

 Feliz 12 del 12 de 2012!
Have a lovely 12/12/2012!
